Rainplot terms of use (United States)
Version 2026-10-25-2 · Privacy notice (United States)
1. Who we are, and when these terms apply
Rainplot is a service of:
RainPlot
Hees 62
5521NW Eersel
Nederland
Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK): 74768956
E-mail: info@rainplot.com
We are a sole proprietorship in the Netherlands. We have no office or company in the United States. In these terms we are "we" or "us"; "you" are the user.
These terms apply if you live in the United States, Canada or Mexico, or if the license you buy is for an address in one of these countries. In all other cases our general terms apply. By creating an account or buying a license you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Rainplot.
2. For planning only
Rainplot is a tool to plan a lawn and garden sprinkler system yourself.
- The calculations are estimates. They are based on manufacturers' data and on assumptions.
- We copy and process the manufacturers' data ourselves. We can make mistakes in doing so, and numbers in Rainplot may be wrong. Verify the data that matter to you, such as pressure, flow, throw (radius), sizes and prices, with the manufacturer or the store before you buy or install anything.
- Wind, slope, soil and changes in water pressure are not taken into account.
- Prices are indicative. A store may have other prices or products.
- The manufacturers' documentation (PDFs) is a copy. It may be out of date.
- Rainplot is not a contractor, plumber, engineer or irrigation designer, and gives no personal advice.
Before you buy or install anything, you are responsible for checking:
- sizes, pressure, flow, parts and prices;
- your local plumbing, building and irrigation codes, and your water utility's rules (for example watering restrictions);
- backflow prevention: most US jurisdictions require an approved backflow preventer on an irrigation system, and some require it to be installed by a licensed person and tested every year;
- whether you need a permit or an inspection;
- underground utilities: call 811 before you dig;
- whether your state or town requires a licensed irrigation contractor or plumber for the work. Where it does, have them do or check the work.
When you buy a license you confirm this separately, with a box of its own.
3. Your account
- You need an account. An account is for one person.
- You must be 18 or older. Rainplot is not meant for children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
- Use a correct e-mail address that is yours.
- Keep your password secret. If you think someone else knows it, change it and tell us.
- You can delete your account at any time: Account → Delete account.
- On abuse, or if you break these terms, we may suspend or end your account (section 10). If you ask us why, we explain, unless the law forbids it.
4. Free use
- You get 30 minutes of active time. The time runs from the first object you place on the map. The tour does not count.
- Active means: Rainplot is open and you are using it. The server also counts by itself how many minutes you load the map close up. After the first 10 minutes this counts when your app reports less time.
- The free time also ends 14 days after it started, even if you used less than 30 minutes.
- For free you can place at most 4 sprinklers on the map and choose from a small number of models.
- For free you cannot save, export or use the planner. You see the first 3 rows of the shopping list.
- The free time belongs to your e-mail address, not to your account. A new account with the same address gives no new free time. This also applies to variants such as name+something@ or, at Gmail, dots in the name.
- When logged in, you can view the manufacturers' documentation, up to 60 different documents a day.
5. The license
A license is what you buy: the full version of Rainplot, for 1 year, for one location.
- A license costs US $5, the price shown at checkout.
- A license is for one address: everything within 100 meters (about 330 feet) of the point you bought it for. That point is the center of your design on the map at checkout; the license is named by the coordinates of that point and the number of sprinklers. The edge of the yard may lie at most 50 meters (about 165 feet) further out.
- A license is valid for 365 days from payment. It does not renew automatically. You are never charged again unless you buy a new license yourself.
- If you buy a new license for a design that a running license already covers, the new one starts when the old one ends.
- For that address a license gives you: all sprinklers and models, the planner, saving, exporting and the full shopping list.
- The planner runs on our server. Each license can use it 20 times a day (a day in UTC). A run counts once it gave a design or ran for 30 seconds. You can start it at most 60 times a day.
- Other technical limits apply against abuse, for example for map images, storage (50 MB per account) and exports per hour. In normal use you won't notice them.
6. Payment and receipts
- You pay in US dollars through our payment provider Mollie B.V. (Netherlands), by card or another method Mollie offers at checkout. Your card issuer may charge a foreign transaction fee, because the payment goes to a company in the Netherlands.
- Right after payment we send you an e-mail with what you bought, the price, the license's address, the start and end date, and these terms attached, with their version. Keep that e-mail.
- You agree that we may give you these terms, receipts and notices electronically, by e-mail or in the app.
- If you want an invoice, e-mail us and we will send it.
7. Refunds
- A license starts right after payment and gives you immediate access to digital content. Because of that, payments are not refundable once the license has started, except as set out in these terms or where the law requires a refund.
- Goodwill refund: within 14 days after payment you can ask us by e-mail to info@rainplot.com for a full refund, without giving a reason. We then end the license. This is voluntary on our part and does not apply to licenses we ended for abuse (section 10).
- If a new license starts later, because a running license already covers your design (section 5), you can cancel it for a full refund until it starts, and in any case within 14 days after payment.
- If the license does not work as described in these terms and we cannot fix it within a reasonable time, we refund the unused part pro rata, or in full if you could not use it at all.
- If we stop Rainplot or make a change that makes the license noticeably less useful to you (section 13), or change these terms to your disadvantage (section 15), we refund the unused part pro rata.
- To ask for a refund, e-mail info@rainplot.com. We refund within 14 days, in the same way you paid. Please contact us before you dispute a charge with your card issuer; we usually solve it faster.
8. Your rights under the law
Some states, provinces and countries give consumers rights that a contract cannot take away. Nothing in these terms limits a right that the law of the place where you live does not allow to be limited.
California residents: under California Civil Code section 1789.3, you may contact the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs in writing at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or by phone at (800) 952-5210.
9. License to use Rainplot
- With a license (section 5) you may use Rainplot for the yard at the address of that license, for yourself or your household. This right is personal, non-exclusive and cannot be transferred.
- You may share your own design with whoever installs your system, for example a contractor.
- Rainplot is not meant for work for others, as a contractor, landscaper or seller. We do not offer a license for that now; one may come later.
10. What is not allowed
- Querying or scraping Rainplot automatically (scraping, crawling, bots, scripts), other than normal use in your browser.
- Copying or reusing substantial parts of the library of sprinklers, pumps and parts, the prices, the calculation engine or the app, or repeatedly and systematically requesting small parts. What you need for your own design is allowed.
- Decompiling, disassembling or reverse engineering the software, except as far as applicable law expressly permits despite this restriction.
- Sharing your account with others.
- Working around the free limits, for example with extra accounts, other e-mail addresses, or by changing the app or the counter.
- Testing or working around the security, or overloading the service.
- Using Rainplot in violation of law, including the export control and sanctions rules in section 17.
If you do, we may suspend or end your account. We then refund the unused part of a running license pro rata, minus the reasonable costs the abuse caused us. We may claim further damages from you.
11. Intellectual property
- Rainplot's software, texts, images and the selection and arrangement of its library of sprinklers, pumps, valves and prices are protected by copyright and other laws. They belong to us or to our licensors. Open-source parts are listed in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md.
- We invested a lot in that library. Section 10 forbids extracting or reusing substantial parts of it; that is a condition of your license.
- Brand names, product data and documentation belong to the manufacturers. The copies of their PDFs are for reference only. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by any manufacturer or store.
- Map images belong to the providers named on the map. Of Esri's map images you may only use what Rainplot shows and exports; do not download, store or reuse them. The attribution stays on the map and on exported plans.
- Your design is yours. You allow us to store and process it as far as needed to provide Rainplot and to help you (see the privacy notice). Designs are private; we do not publish them.
12. Exports
- You can export a saved project as an encrypted file (.rainplot). It opens only in Rainplot. Whoever imports it needs a license for that design's address.
- PDF and CSV carry a watermark: your e-mail address, your license number, the date and a code of your account. Do not remove it. If you share a PDF or CSV, the recipient sees your e-mail address.
13. Availability and changes to the service
- We do our best to keep Rainplot working and available, but we do not promise that it always works. Sometimes there is maintenance. Keep your own copy of important designs.
- We may change or improve features. If a change makes the license noticeably less useful to you, we e-mail you beforehand. You can then end the license within 30 days; we refund the unused part pro rata.
- We may stop Rainplot, without a notice period. We then refund the unused part of a running license pro rata.
14. Disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability
PLEASE READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. IT LIMITS OUR LIABILITY TO YOU.
RAINPLOT, ITS DESIGNS, CALCULATIONS, PARTS LISTS, PRICES AND DOCUMENTS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", FOR PLANNING ONLY. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT A DESIGN WILL WATER YOUR YARD WELL, MEETS ANY CODE, PERMIT OR BACKFLOW REQUIREMENT, OR THAT THE SERVICE IS UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.
YOU DECIDE WHAT YOU BUY AND INSTALL, AND YOU CHECK IT FIRST (SECTION 2). TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOSS FROM YOUR OWN DECISIONS ABOUT BUYING AND INSTALLING, INCLUDING THE COST OF PARTS, MATERIALS OR LABOR, WATER DAMAGE, DAMAGE TO PROPERTY, LAWNS OR PLANTS, WATER BILLS, FINES, CONTAMINATION OF WATER SUPPLIES, A SYSTEM THAT WORKS DIFFERENTLY THAN EXPECTED, OR LOST SAVINGS, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE. WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR DATA AND PRICES OF MANUFACTURERS AND STORES, NOR FOR LOSS OF DATA OF WHICH YOU COULD HAVE KEPT A COPY.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO RAINPLOT IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR YOUR LICENCE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, AND AT LEAST US $5.
These limits do not apply to liability for our fraud, gross negligence or willful misconduct, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, nor as far as the law does not allow them. Some states do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or the limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so some of the above may not apply to you; in that case our liability is limited to the fullest extent your state's law permits.
15. Changes to these terms
- We may change these terms when the law changes, when we add or change features, or to prevent abuse.
- We e-mail everyone with an account at least 30 days before a change takes effect.
- If a change is to the disadvantage of a license you already paid for, you can cancel the license until the change takes effect; we refund the unused part pro rata. For a license you already paid for, the price never changes.
- Every version has a number. With your account and with every payment we keep which version you accepted.
16. Disputes, governing law and courts
- If you have a complaint, e-mail us at info@rainplot.com first. We answer within 14 days. Please give us 30 days to solve it before you start a case.
- These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer protection laws of the state, province or country where you live.
- Courts: you may bring a claim in the competent court in the Netherlands, or in the small-claims court of the county where you live if your claim qualifies. We will only bring a claim against you in a court where you live.
- There is no arbitration agreement in these terms, and you do not waive the right to take part in a class action.
17. Export control and sanctions
You may not use Rainplot if you are located in, or ordinarily resident in, a country or region under comprehensive US or EU sanctions, or if you are on a US or EU sanctions or restricted-party list (for example the US Treasury's SDN list). You may not use Rainplot for anyone who is. We may refuse or end an account to comply with these rules.
18. Other
- If part of these terms is invalid or cannot be enforced, the rest still applies, and the invalid part is replaced by a valid one that comes closest to its purpose.
- These terms, with the privacy notice, are the whole agreement between you and us about Rainplot.
- If we do not enforce a right at once, we do not give it up.
- You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer them to a successor of our business; we will tell you, and your rights do not decrease.
- Neither of us is liable for a delay or failure caused by events beyond reasonable control, such as outages of the internet, power or our providers.
